Langson Library Update

This morning this was just a rumor, now it’s official!  Direct action gets the goods!

Just goes to show that even without demands, even without formal organization or centralized leadership, we can get shit done!

Libraries Expand Finals Week Study Hours

In consultation with ASUCI, we are prioritizing student study needs during finals week. We are pleased to announce that we will be keeping Langson Library open 24-hours a day beginning 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4 and ending 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.

The Libraries Gateway Study Center and the UCI Student Center also will be open 24-hours a day during this period.

While it gladdens me to see that mere preparation has already achieved concrete results, I’m wondering what this means for the occupation? Will it go ahead as planned? Does it change your plans that the administration has, in fact, turned the tables and effectively forced its staff to work when y’all were not going to? Will the change in official hours change the nature of the planned action? Should a hypothetical UC student from another county drive all the way there tonight to be part of an occupation, or would it be better for that person to stay and study at their own campus’ 24-hour library? Finally, what should such a student bring if they do come? For themselves and to share, that is.
